Ardi Hassirchian ''The Kite Runner'' Introductory Post December 22nd 2014
1) Above is the cover of the Kite Runner that I am reading.
2) It was written by Khaled Hosseini.
3) It was published by ''Anchor Canada'' in 2004.
4) There are 393 pages in the novel.
5)''Amir is the son of a wealthy Kabul merchant, a member of the ruling caste of Pashtuns. Hassan, his servant and constant companion, is a Hazara, a despised and impoverished caste. Their uncommon bond is torn by Amir's choice to abandon his friend amidst the increasing ethnic, religious, and political tensions of the dying years of the Afghan monarchy, and apparently dissolved when Amir and his father flee to California to escape the Soviet invasion, leaving Hassan and his own gentle father to a terrible fate. But years later, an old family friend calls Amir from Pakistan and reminds him: ''There is a way to be good again.'' And Amir journeys back to a distant world, to try to right past wrongs against the only true friend he ever had.'' - (The Jacket Of The Kite Runner)

7) This book engages me because of the great reviews I have heard about it. Moreover, some of my Afghan family friends have offered me insight into the real life problems that occur in Afghanistan on an every day bais. They have read the Kite Runner and we have discussed the fact the story lines in the book are quite relevant to real life stories of so many people living in Afghanistan. This book has assisted me to gain an understanding of the harsh circumstances so many Afghan citizens have gone through due to the war between the Soviet Union and Afghanistan as well as the civil war with the Taliban. unfortunayely, on our side of the world, often these types of problems are unheard of and when mentioned, they are dismissed easily. In sum, this intriguing story has given me an insider look to the problems and obstacles that the citizens of this country have been dealing with for decades and I have gained a new found respect for them through that.
